Pastels

While bright, jewel-toned flowers enjoy a great amount of popularity, on the other end of the spectrum are the delicate shades of the pastels, including white, pink, peach, yellow, light blue, and pale purple.  These muted yet beautiful tones can provide just as much impact as their vibrant cousins, and are often favored above these stronger shades because of their versatility and ease of coordination with many common decors.  Certain occasions also tend to favor pastel flowers, such as flowers in sympathy or for a funeral, or flowers welcoming a newborn child.       

As with the bright coloured blooms of summer, pastel flowers can work well on their own or in combination with other flowers within their own type or outside of it.  Many popular flowers offer pastel options as well as their brighter varieties, including roses, carnations, orchids, lilies, tulips, gerberas, and freesia.  A bouquet of yellow carnations, for example, would make a simple and lovely centerpiece for a lunch date, while pale pink roses can go from day to evening and are appropriate for romantic engagements as well.  A bouquet of peach gerbera would liven up any room, while the muted blue of the hydrangea bloom would add a soothingly beautiful touch to any space.

Pastels also work very well together, such as a bouquet of white, yellow, pink, and lavender freesia, while peach, pale pink, and light yellow roses would make another visual treat.  Flowers in light pink shades, such as gerberas, tulips, roses, and carnations, can be commonly found at the bedsides of newborn girls; and while there are considerably less varieties of blue flowers, many light purple flowers can appear almost blue and are popular in bouquets for newborn boys.  For a less traditional route for a newborn, flowers in the pale shades of orange, yellow, and purple would also be a welcome gift, such as roses, carnations, lilies, and gerberas. 

To mix flowers and colours, white roses can be put together with peach gerbera and blue delphinium; pale pink roses with peach gerbera and lavender freesia; pale yellow roses with light pink gerbera and white carnations; light yellow roses and gerberas with white mums; and many more combinations of these classy, versatile shades and flowers can be conceived for any occasion or sentiment.
